We’re excited to announce that we’ll be kicking off a project with Perlara PBC, a biotech company located in the Bay Area. On March 1, their amazing team of scientists will build a yeast model of Milo’s AFG3L2 affected gene variants and use that “avatar” to see what FDA approved drugs could be repurposed and potentially slow the progression of his disease. 

While this is not a cure, if there is an available drug that could pause regression and extend his life, it will give us more time to continue searching, fundraising and fighting for a long-term cure. With the generous support of our community, you’ve helped us launch Phase I that will last about 6-8 weeks. 

But we are still short of the required funds needed to commence and complete Phase II. This is the real actionable data, where we’ll hopefully get multiple hits on treatment options from Milo’s drug repurposing screen. As long as we reach our fundraising goals we should be able to complete Phase II in approximately 3-4 months.
